Thrift Finds: A very good week

Hello friends of the vintage find,

I am back after enjoying a nice week with my best friend. It is wonderful what spending time with someone you love does to your perspective on life. My heart is full!

A week that started well and ended much better. I am happy to report that the flood gates have opened at the thrift stores. It is truly marvelous to find more than a couple good things in one stop. I hope I am not jinxing myself by writing about it.

See what I mean? Look at this beautiful vase. Designed by Los Angeles muralist Raul Coronel and made by Treasure Craft of California c. 1970. Thanks to Marci of Sputnik Housewares who helped me with the ID.

The same day that I found the vase, I found these three wonderful Tonala figurines designed by Jorge Wilmot. Whimsical and fun.

Not one but two Landert fondue pots! These are much loved by my Etsy customers, and I am more than happy to keep finding them for the store. Don't you crave some fondue just by looking at these?

My last find from the thrift store is this retro vase. It is not marked and it feels newer to me. I have yet to find more information on it.

Now for my favorite finds of the week (which in thrifter code means that these are things that I would love to keep!) Look at this gorgeous Royal Copenhagen Aluminia vase. I can't stand the beauty! Found today at an estate sale. It was a very good sale.

A good sale indeed! My FIRST Martz lamp! Eeeek! I am thinking I need to make sure this lamp works well before I list it. Don't you think?

These two glasses are just a small taste of the amazing load found at the estate sale. A pitcher, sugar and creamer, four cordial glasses, seventeen old fashion glasses, and ten tumblers from iittala Ultima Thule line. I had not found much of this line before today, and now I know why it has such a following.

If you follow me on Instagram, then you saw my sea of Scandinavian glass. I can't believe my good luck!

I have a couple of posts planned for the blog, I just have to find the time to write them. I will be back for sure next week. Sharing this week with A Living SpaceRemnant and Sir Thrift a Lot.

New love

Do you think that people fall in love for objects at first sight? I do. I have fallen head over heals for many beautiful things over the years. It is funny though, that I can love many different objects with the same intensity... What does this say about me?

Enough pondering about unrequited love, lets just take a look to my latest obsession.

Last week while enjoying my best friend's company, we went to Abbot Kinney Boulevard for some window shopping and people watching. We came upon Chariots of Fire, and even though it was already closed I was able to lust after the beautiful work displayed on the window. The work of Makoto Kagoshima is absolutely beautiful. A potter from the south end of Japan, Mr Kagoshima draws his inspiration from nature. Gorgeous! I might have to go back at some point and buy at least one plate!

Pardon the quality of the pictures, they were taken with my iphone.

Hello friends of the vintage find,

As many of you know collections sometimes happen without us planning them. I never consciously started collecting teak figurines, but the little guys are so charming that I find it difficult to let them go. I have a monkey on my desk, two birds by my monitor screen, ducks on the shelves, soldiers guarding books and an optimist and a pessimist reminding me that balance is everything.

My most recent addition to the collection are these three wonderful vikings. They have been on my wish list for a long time, a struck of good luck allowed me to bring them home. Designed by Jakob Jensen in the 1950's., these are all made of modular and interchangeable parts. My set came in the original box with viking ship design and original instructions.

Other finds from the week include these wonderful Russel Wright American Modern glasses. This is the first time I find Wright glassware in the wild. These are beautifully designed and crafted.

I found two of these Satumetsa iittala plates at the thrift. These were designed by Klaus Haapaniemi for the enchanted forest line. These are recent production and will be for sale on eBay.

Another item found at a thrift this week is this early Patrick Nagel limited edition serigraph. This print was made for Casa Lupita, a Mexican restaurant, as a promotional poster. Printed by master printer Jeff Wasserman. Listed here.

This lovely Beaver State - Pendleton blanket was a not so thrifty find at a thrift store. I have wanted to find a Chief Joseph blanket for a while, and I just couldn't pass up this beauty.

Today's trip to the Long Beach flea was a bit of a disappointment. I love this market and I usually find plenty of smalls, but today everything I wanted was overpriced or damaged. I didn't come home empty handed though. This beautiful covered pot was designed by Eduardo Vega, one of the most prominent Ecuadorian artists of recent times. I adore his older work and most of all his large scale murals.

Another ceramic find from the market, an Italian vase with fantastic stripes. I do not know the specific maker of this piece but I think it is a sweet piece nonetheless.

Best find of the day was this large Bitossi ashtray. I had one in the store a while back and it could have fit nicely inside this one. I am going to have a hard time listing this one...

Hello friends of the vintage find,

I am happy to share with you a find that didn't happen the first time around. See, about a month ago I was at a local consignment store when a beautiful woodblock print caught my eye. A signed Artist Proof of great quality. Soon I tweeted a picture of the print and the signature and Scott told me that the artist was Fumio Fujita. I liked the print a lot but the price was high, so I decided to pass on it. When I got home I did some research on Fujita and his work and I fell in love with it. I like his more abstract work the best.  Since then, I have been checking on the availability of his work and how well it sells. Some of his signed prints sell very well, so I started to regret not getting the print the first time around. Well, today I went back to the store to find that the print was still there. Price was the same. I boldly asked the owner if he would consider a lower price on it. He was open to negotiation and I took a risk and offered a price about 40% lower than the asking price. Offer accepted! I am a happy thrifter.

Other finds from this week include an extra large serving bowl by Andersen Design Studio. This is the very popular Tree of Life motif originally designed by Weston Neil Andersen. I think I might have to display this one until it sells.

A stop to an antique mall in the middle of the week was fruitful as I found a beautiful Gustavsberg Bersa plate, a Heath creamer and a sweet hand painted porcelain pill box.

Today's stop at a small flea marked yielded this awesome ceramic tile artwork signed EM? A research project for this week.

I also picked this large Eskimo figurine made by the Canadian company Wolf. This one is a large and detailed cast sculpture. I am broadening my scope to include some intriguing and well done pieces that might not be strictly mid century modern but that were made around the same period. It is an ongoing conversation with history!

These two Swedish birds came with me from the market as well. They are very cute and very popular with my Etsy customers.

A good week for finds, a slow week for listing. I need to focus more on getting all these photographed and listed. Remember that you can always contact me if you are interested in any of my finds, no need to wait until I list!

Mystery Tile Artwork - Help Needed!

Hello friends,

I come to you with a mystery in my hands, I need your help!

Remember this?

A recent find signed EM on the lower right. A very interesting work made well and in need of an attribution. I have been searching all over, following all kinds of leads, and I think I am very close to finding the artist of this piece. Here is what I know so far:

This work looks a lot like the work of Greek mid century artist Panos Valsamakis

Image from Mid-Centuria

Image from Mid-Centuria

Are you still with me? I know it is not a Valsamakis piece because his signature is very different, yet in the same stile as the one in my piece. This leads me to think that my piece was made by a contemporary or a pupil of Valsamakis.

Looking a little deeper I found a couple references to Valsamakis full signature:

Image from Flickr

And I also found a full signature in the same style, on the same kind of tile that matches the initials EM in my tile

Image from Etsy

I have tried without success to read this signature! I need your help! I think a native greek speaker would look at this and say, but it is so easy. It says "..."

So, please, please, please, help a friend out. Share this post and maybe we can all solve this mystery together! Thanks

Hello lovers of the vintage find,

I have a lot of great finds to share with you. This week was busy with work and it took me to Santa Monica for a meeting and to San Diego for a much needed break. I am used to driving far, listening to NPR and enjoying the time by myself.

Anyhow, I obviously had to stop at several thrift stores on my way to LA. I didn't have much luck this time around but you never know when you are going to find the good stuff, right? My week got much better when I got this beautiful ceramic viking in the mail. He has been in my thrift wish list for ever! So happy to welcome him home if only for a while. Designed by Taisto Kaasinen for Upsala Ekeby, this is the largest version made at 9 1/2"

Later in the week I lucked out at a nearby thrift when I found this set of Arabia Ruska dishes. I love this pattern, and if I didn't have a committed relationship with my lovely Heath dishes, I could see us using this gorgeous set.

Estate sales were not fruitful this week either. I can't complaint too much as I found a Pendleton Stadium blanket in its original bag and a couple pieces of pottery, a cream and sugar set made by Sam Calder - reserved for his family as they are building a collection of his work. They already purchased these.

I also found this good looking stoneware jar at the estate sale. Signed Holm which only tells me that I need to research it some more. I like it a lot even without an attribution. Isn't it nice?

San Diego was great! The drive down is beautiful, the weather was really nice, my museum visit fed my soul and the thrifting and cherry picking was incredible! Let's start with these great owls. The one on the forefront is a David Stewart for Lion's Valley. I have never seen any of his figurines glazed with any color other than white. I love the little guy. The metal owl in the back is my second one in this style. A great looking brutalist bird to add some texture to your decor.

Two large Homelgaard Primula jars. These are so lovely! I find it incredible that these delicate pieces have survived this long!

A lovely people bottle designed by Erik Hoglund for Neiman Marcus. This piece resembles a design by Hoglund for Kosta Boda. I usually pass on these bottles, but this one was priced just right!

Now for the best finds of the week: A very modern enamel plate by Maggie Howe, enamelist extraordinaire who worked in Mexico alongside Miguel Pineda. Their work was sold at the famous Los Castillo in Taxco.

And this next find is not only my best one but the cutest one of the year! I can handle the cuteness of this mama bear and cubs figurines by Arabia of Finland. Darling!

Thrift Finds: A Midweek Post

Hello friends of the vintage find,

I am late with my post but I promise that my finds will make up for it! It was a week filled with new discoveries and lots of learning. This business is always interesting, never dull.

Take for example the little soldier on the right. I found it at a new to me consignment store. He is obviously a take on the beloved Kay Bojesen soldier. The one on the left was my first Bojesen and you can read all about how he came to be mine here. The thing that is very special about this little copy cat soldier is that he bears the same promotional sticker for Aalborg Akvavit on his hat as his older brother! I have tried to find more information on these promotional figurines with no luck. A while back one of these Akvavit soldiers sold well on eBay, so I assume that there are some collectors interested in these. Little soldier is not marked Kay Bojesen but he has a partial sticker on his foot that reads "Copyright Shackman, Made in Japan." For sale here.

I found these cute Japanese Ainu carved bears (SOLD) at the same store. I guess I am the bear lady now! (I crack myself up)

Gorgeous, truly gorgeous Heath casseroles found at the Flea Market on Sunday. These were found together and they made my trip to the market worthwhile. I have been on a Heath buying spree (Pumkin pieces to add to our dishes) and these two pieces could add some contrast to my set! But who am I kidding? I will sell these, I hardly use serving pieces at home... Large one listed here.

More Heath from the thrift store. An individual casserole or covered sugar bowl. Isn't it lovely how the lines and proportions from the different pieces talk to each other? These will be listed soon.

Look at this gorgeous Jack! I find these fairly often, but I usually find just one bookend. I am not picky, I will take these any day of the week. I love how playful and simple they are. Red is so much fun!

My friend Maarit recently found a fantastic Denby Potters Wheel ice bucket and I fell in love with it immediately. Later that week I found this medium size vase from the same line at the thrift. Talk about good thrifting luck! Designed by David Yorath this line is unique in its studio art roots and the variety of pieces that were made to go with the dinnerware.

My best find of the week has to be this gorgeous planter. I picked it up at the Flea Market from the same stall as the Heath pieces. I knew the planter was special but I had no idea who could have done it. I tweeted a picture to my friends and I got a lot of good comments about the piece but no ID. I had the feeling that the glaze treatment was like other glazes found in West German Pottery, so I posted a picture of the piece to the WGP group on Facebook and within minutes I had an ID. A Ruscha Filigran by Adele Bolz. Judging by all the comments my post elicited, I am pretty sure this was a very lucky find! I am so glad I trusted my gut with this one. Listed here.

I promise I am almost done. A very mod plastic spice holder found at the thrift. No marks.

And last but not least a unique copper and metal Ystad candle holder designed by Gunnar Ander. So cool!

If you are interested in any of these items do not hesitate to contact me. I will give you a better price now than after I list in the store.

Sunday Sale: a new way to shop at Mid Mod Mom

Hello lovers of vintage,

I have big news for you! I have been thinking of ways to grow this business of mine and I have come up with an idea that will work for me and for you. Do you want to know what it is? I will get to the details of Sunday Sale in a minute, but first I want to tell you why I am doing this.

As you all might know by now, I am the sole proprietor of Mid Mod Mom which means that I am the only one thrifting, cleaning, repairing, photographing, researching, listing, packing, shipping, etc. It is my business so I am more than happy to do this. I also find myself spending a lot of time making sure my brand is known. So I write this blog, I Instagram my finds, I have a Facebook page, and of course I tweet. Tired yet?

Furthermore some recent Google updates have left Etsy listings in the dark and traffic to the store is at a crawling pace. I am more likely to find my blog on the first page of results for an item than my Etsy listing for the same item.
I still love Etsy and my customers, but in order to make all my work worthwhile I have also started listing on eBay. It is not the same and I don't like it as much, but I get a lot of traffic and sales. Who can argue with that?
I used to sell with Fab, but just last week Fab announced that it won't be selling vintage in the future.

What is a social media savvy reseller with great taste to do? Use the tools at hand to get great finds to customers at great prices with less work. How can this be? Let's see:

Hello vintage seekers,

I don't know if you have heard yet, but Mid Mod Mom is starting Sunday Sales. If you are curious and want to find out more, you can find the scoop here.

This week was a good one with a couple of really great finds and lots of smalls. Let's see the finds:

Monday took me to the dentist, and the only thing I like about going to the dentist is the wonderful thrift stores in the neighborhood. I found this beautiful crackle glass Blenko decanter. I believe this is form #7411.

I also found this set of coasters. I had passed on these the week before because even though I thought they were Fornasetti, these are not marked as such. Serendipitously a friend on twitter was requesting information on the same set. One thing let to another and with the help of my pals I found a sold set on eBay that is marked with the Fornasetti stamp. So I'm attributing them to Fornasetti, but I am waiting to hear from their Milan office, they always reply and help with ID.

Wednesday I went back to an antique's mall to get these two amazing West German jugs. I had seen them and did not get them because I was not sure if the price they were asking was too much or not. I didn't have an ID either as the smaller jug didn't have the maker's mark and the large one was too big to move. I posted a picture in the wonderful West German Pottery Facebook group and soon I had an ID. These are Carstens Atelier Series by Gerda Herkeroth. Large one is massive at 16" tall.

On Thursday I went to a nearby estate sale that didn't look like much from the pictures. I was pleasantly surprised when the first thing I saw was this beautiful screen print on linen wall hanging by Ross Littell. I knew immediatly what it was because I had passed on a couple of these a while back. I had done a bit of research on them as they were a bit expensive. I found out that they sell well but it was a slim margin for me the first time around. I also found a striking silk scarf by Brooke Cadwallader. I need to clean it before I photograph it and sell it. It is just like this one.

Another great find was this unique enamel plate by Jean Ames with a beautifully rendered mermaid. If you recall I found two other pieces by Jean Ames before. I love her work! This plate sold the same day I found it!

Sweet 4" tall Dala Horse from the same estate sale. I sold my Dala herd a while back, it was time for a new one. Cute!

A mystery Jeanette jadeite bowl from the same estate (Thanks to Bryan for ID.) No marks. Pretty though.

My local thrifts have been a waste of time lately, thankfully I found this sweet mother and child porcelain candle holder - make that two of them! I sold this exact piece once before, and I have yet to find any information on the maker. It is lovely and if I recall correctly it sold really fast.

Today's garage sale run found me a luscious Blenko indent bowl #949 by Winslow Anderson in ruby red. I had an amber one in the store recently which I had a hard time parting with, now it is Blenko love all over again.

My last find of the day is a fun one. An Alessi limited edition corkscrew by Alessandro Mendini. This one is Honolulu and it was produced in 2006. Sadly this little guy lost his flower lei on his way to my house. I have a fondness for Alessi products as they remind me of our time in Italy when we lived about 40 minutes from the Alessi factory and its outlet! You can spy several Alessi pieces in my kitchen. Great contemporary design!

If you are interested in any of this week's finds, visit Mid Mod Mom's Facebook page tomorrow for my first Sunday Sale. One day only! Sale starts at 9:00 AM Pacific Standard Time. All items will be discounted for the sale.

Thrift Finds: A not so thrifty find

Hello seekers of vintage beauty,

I can't believe I was able to score one of the items at the top of my wish list! I didn't find it in a thrift store (that would have been awesome!) nor did I find it on a estate sale. I found it at an antique mall. Not as exciting? Are you dissapointed? I am not! Suffice to say the seller had a very reasonable price on it and she was running a sale. Now this beautiful Meridian clock hangs in my office.

Other finds from this week will be available on the next Sunday Sale on my Facebook page.

NIB Dansk staved teak hostess board designed by Jens Quistgaard. Beautiful!

Great orange lava glaze on this West German Scheurich Keramik vase. Love the shape as well.

This is obviously not vintage, and I am a little ashamed to have picked it up. It is a Jonathan Adler ornament. It is pretty enough, it is just that I have been known to criticize the designer for his blatant copies of everything Mid-Century. Oh well.

Cute Nymolle ceramic board illustrating all the good food that comes from Denmark. What I like best is the graphic in the back that states in several languages: "It's good. It's from Denmark."

I usually don't look for clothes at the thrift store, but sometimes something catches my eye and it finds its way into my cart. Lovely wool sweater made in Denmark. Great scandinavian design.

And last but not least, a fabulous Lightolier lamp! It is SO beautiful! So tempted to keep this one -because I don't have ENOUGH lamps in the house :)

So, if you are interested in any of these, you can contact me or you can check my Sunday Sale on Mid Mod Mom's Facebook page tomorrow morning - 9:00 AM Pacific Daylight Time

Thrift Finds and Sunday Sale

Hello seekers of vintage beauty,

Welcome back to my blog! As most of you might know, I started a new venture a couple of weeks ago with the hope of selling more and working less. Well, Sunday Sale was certainly more work, and I had no sales to show for my effort. So I have decided not to post my Sunday Sale on FaceBook anymore. I will however publish my Thrift Finds blog post every Sunday at 9 AM PST, and I will sell from my post as I used to do before. Less of a flash sale, more of a "I saw it first and I want it before you list it" kind of sale. I also have exciting news, but I will write another post tomorrow about that (so excited!)

I found A LOT of wonderful things this week, so I will dive right into it.

You all know of my love affair with Royal Copenhagen, right? Well, my love increases every time I find a new piece. This one is a rare ostrich egg shaped vase decorated by Nils Thorssen. Gorgeous!

A lovely Cathrineholm pan found at the flea market last Sunday, it is funny how I mostly find green Cathrineholm in the wild. I will take any color to tell you the truth.

Following with the Scandinavian theme, a beautiful enamel percolator by Glud & Marstrand of Denmark. So tempted to add this to my coffee pot collection.

A lovely ceramic tray by JIE Gantofta of Sweden, decorated by Ella Bergstrand. Great colors and detail on this one.

What do you know? More Bitossi Rimini Blue. This is a large shallow bowl found at an estate sale this week. Bowl is in perfect condition and it retains its original Raymor sticker.

Not one, but two Lotte lamps! These are stunning in their simplicity. My other two lotte lamps sold really fast. I think these will not last!

Small Michael Andersen and Sons (MAS) vase designed by Marianne Starck. Danish ceramics feel so different to the touch. Great stuff!

Large Emalox platter in very good condition. I usually pass on Emalox due to bad scratches. Happy to have found this one in such a happy color.

Unknown maker, but a very interesting piece. A Gemini sign carved out of stone and placed on a pedestal. It feels like it should be something. Any ideas?

A pair of iittala Arkipelago candlesticks designed by Timo Saarpaneva. These ones are tinted with a beautiful blue shade, they were reissued in the 1980's. I love them!

Large handled ceramic pot by Ditlev ceramics of Denmark. There is not much information out there about this studio, but every single piece I have seen is absolutely stunning!

Whew! This is it for the week! If you are interested in anything feel free to contact me.

Hello lovely friends,

This week I realized that my ever growing inventory is taking over my office and that I need to slow down the thrifting and organize my space and my mind. I only went out thrifting twice, and both outings were side trips to other errands! I am so proud of myself!

So, what did I find? On my first trip out I saw this large and very well crafted ceramic lamp. I couldn't find any signatures and the piece was so large that I decided to pass on it. Later that night my friend Charlie (aka the pottery wizard) mentioned that the lamp looked like it could have been made by Affiliated Craftsmen. That clue was enough to take me down the rabbit hole of mid-century pottery possibilities. I searched, and I bookmarked, and I emailed a couple of experts to try and find an ID. The next day I got an answer in my inbox identifying the lamp as a Brent Bennett piece! I was back at the thrift store first thing in the morning and the lamp was mine!

Armed with my new found knowledge I was able to ID another piece by Brent Bennet at the thrift. This monumental vase is damaged, but it is so beautiful I couldn't leave it behind. It will look great in my new backyard.

I'll admit that I was hoping to find more studio art pottery that day, so when I saw this well crafted bowl/tea light holder I had to have it. It is nothing like the aforementioned pieces, but it was worth getting it for the store.

And the great pottery finds did not stop there. I also found four small Heath bowls. It is funny how my pictures even out the size of everything.

On Thursday I had a dentist appointment and after a couple hours of torture treatment, I needed to have some fun. I stopped at an estate sale nearby and was pleasantly surprised to find this lovely Upsala Ekeby Bellis cup and saucer.

I also found a couple of Hans Jensen Calla Lilly candle holders at the estate sale, but I forgot to photograph them.

These are my few finds from this week, if you are interested in any of these and would like to find out more, feel free to contact me.

Do not forget that Taste Setters first flash sale is tonight! 7PM PST.
We are all very excited about this new venture, and we have been working very hard to make this an exceptionally well curated place for all lovers of mid-century design. Come share in the excitement!

Thrift Finds: Few and far between

Hello seekers of beauty,

I am back with a few finds from this week. I am trying to be good and not buy more inventory. I am truly overwhelmed by the size and quantity of all the thing I have yet to list. So what do I do? I still go out and look, because I do not want to miss any of the good stuff! Who wants to be home polishing silver when the next Rembrandt print is found at your local Goodwill? Right?

Lets start this week's finds with one of my favorites. An extra large Anri Form teak tray (23" long). Made in the 1950's by an Italian company, they crafted some beautiful items! I love this bowl!

Another beautiful California Pottery vase from the same thrift as all my finds from last week. I believe they all came from the same household. This piece is skillfuly crafted, but it was not made by any of the "famous" potters of the time. It is beautiful none the less.

A lovely unidentified glass pendant or sun catcher. It looks like it could be Scandinavian in origin, but I have yet to find anything like it.

So far so good: small items that I can store easily. But I had to go and get some heavy, large and delicate pieces because... I like the challenge? The following art tile panels were too nice to leave behind at a Friday estate sale. All three of them are from Israel made by Ein-Reb Ceramics. They all depict Jerusalem. This one is 30" tall.

Each piece of this diptych is 24" tall. Really beautiful work.

My last find of the week was this leaf shaped ceramic dish. Made in Italy. I just couldn't pass it up.

Feel free to contact me if you would like to know more about any of my weekly finds. Also, don't forget to check out our Taste Setters sale inspired by Modern Scandinavian design Sunday night at 7:00 PM PST.

Thrift Finds: Thrifting hiatus fail

Hello friends,

What can I say? The thrift hiatus? What thrift hiatus?

I have plenty of justifications for my behavior though. An amazing mid-century sale hosted by Objects USA in San Diego, a full set of Heath ceramics for sale on Craigslist, and a couple finds at the thrift store that somehow came home with me. Enough said, let's get this over with and take a look at this week's haul, shall we?

Gorgeous Per Lutken Holmegaard bowl found at the thrift store

A couple of Jaru Art vases. My first ones.

Large Martz serving bowl. Love me some Martz.

Good looking face ceramic tile. Signed Dunn.

Heath Ceramics pouring bowl.

Beautiful even if slightly damaged, Kay Whitcomb enamel plate.

Cleverly designed lucite owl. The eyes you see are actually only one indented one in the back which looks like two through the triangular prism.

When in San Diego one must always find some David Stewart!

My best find! A full set of Heath Ceramics for four with serving pieces. This is new production but it matches my vintage Pumpkin set, so I am keeping some pieces and selling others.

As usual, if you are interested in any of my finds, feel free to contact me for more information. I am sharing this week with A Living SpaceRemnantWe Call it Junkin and Sir Thrift a Lot.

Thrift Finds: A few reasons why I keep on thrifting

Hello friends of the vintage find,

No more thrifting hiatus for me! I simply can't stop going out to find the next big thing. Why? Let me show you all the reasons why:

Reason #1

If you follow me on Instagram or Twitter, then you know that I found my first Evelyn Ackerman wood panel made by Panelcraft! This has been on my wish list for ever! Sadly the previous owner attacked the panel with a paint brush! Nothing that cannot be remedied. I have already started the restoration process. The bird in the picture has been stripped from most of the paint. I will share pictures of the finish product soon (I hope).

Reason #2

A very large and highly collectable Metlox Tropicana platter. Such a great find! I am bragging a bit, but just wait…

Reason #3

Yes it is! A beautiful Cathrineholm plate in the difficult to find white on black combo. I have seen very few examples like this on line!

Reason #4

A Malcolm Leland Martian Bank! I would be lying if I said that I knew what this was when I found it. I just knew it had to be something! Thanks to my twitter friends Jessyca and Marcy that encouraged me to buy it and identified it! I have the most amazing twitter pals! This sweet piece has sold and it is going to another of my twitter friend's homes. Good bye little one!

Other reasons

Six iittala Kartio glasses designed by Kaj Frank. Lovely green color.

Arabia of Finland fish trivet. My first!

Incredible brass candle holder / Vase. Small holes along the side of the candle holder for flower display. So beautiful!

A very colorful San Marino pottery tray. Lots of fish this week!!!

Do not forget to check the Taste Setters Seeing Double sale, Sunday at 6:00 PM PST! It is going to be a great one!

Thrift Finds: No time to thrift

Hello seekers of beauty,

Did you have a good Thanksgiving? We did! It was our first celebration by ourselves. We usually drive up to northern California to celebrate with my American family (from my exchange student year), but we just adopted a dog and I couldn't bring myself to leave her at a pet hotel. We managed to replicate the meal at home with a small turkey, all the side dishes, and two pies! It was different but nice.

My best friend happened to be in town for the first part of the week, and one day I dragged her to the thrift store and we found a lot of ceramics.

A nice stack of Arabia Ruska dishes

A trio of bud vases made by the same potter, signed Virginia Smith. These are tiny.

Then all the craziness of the holiday began, all the cooking plus work, etc and I had no time to thrift. So today I decided to stop by the flea market before I posted my meager finds for the week here.

I was surprised to do my first round of the place with not a single find to show for it. Everything was expensive and the dealers were in no mood to negotiate. I think that this is their best market of the year, so everyone wants to make good money. I guess I can understand…

I was not going to leave empty handed, so another round of the market was in order. I am happy to report that I did much better the second time around.

A large platter from Metlox Poppytrail California Mobile. I love this line! One small chip to the rim though.

A sweet wooden figurine made in Sweden.

A small Dala horse. Great for holiday decoration.

My best find of the day! A P.S. Heggen teak wastebasket.

A good week after all. If you are interested in any of my finds, do not hesitate to contact me with your questions. I offer discounted prices to my blog readers! And talking about discounted prices, my yearly sale is going on now with 20% off regular prices on everything in the store. Ends tomorrow at midnight.

A reminder that the Taste SettersOpulent Modernism sale starts tonight at 6PM PST. This sale is my favorite to date!
