Thrift Finds: Limping to the market

Did the tittle of this post get your attention? I have been doing too much, finishing home projects, gardening, organizing, hiking, cleaning, etc and my knee decided that it had had enough. It started hurting on Tuesday and by Wednesday after a long hike it was swollen and it hurt to walk two steps in a row.

On Thursday I had plans to stop by an estate sale that had many Kaoru Kawano woodblock prints, but my knee was worse, so I decided to take it easy and wait for my doctor's appointment instead. I am glad my friend Bryan made it to the sale. He picked a couple of Shuzo Ikeda prints!

To continue with my knee tale, there is nothing really wrong with it. I have to rest, ice it and do some therapy to align it. It is already better. So much better that I went limping to the flea market this morning and these beauties came home with me.

Another Blenko piece! Isn't it gorgeous? It is a 565 decanter designed by Wayne Husted and produced between 1956 and 1960.

Great biscuit tin with wonderful graphic on the front and old favorite recipes on the back.

Another Blenko water bottle. I love the color on this one!

And another favorite of mine, a Howard Pierce quail.

The limping slowed me a little but it didn't stop me from having some fun! What did you find? Sharing with  A Living SpaceRemnant, and Sir Thrift a Lot.

Hello dear readers,

I am a little late with my post this week, but I am sure many of you who are mothers will understand. I had a lovely weekend with my family in beautiful Palm Springs. We had time to relax by the pool, check out some mid century modern stores, and of course, stop by several thrift stores. We had a blast!
Unfortunately the thrift stores were picked clean, yet I managed to have a great week!

First find of the week was this wonderful Jorge Wilmot owl. I have foundseveral of his owls before. He was truly a master, they are so beautiful and whimsical. This little owl came to me all the way from Mexico.

Then I found this beautiful cart at an antique mall. Its beautiful lines and clean design had me at first sight. Thanks to  help from Asha aka Mister True I found out that this is an Ary Nybro design from Sweden. Gorgeous piece.

A Goodwill find! It is finds like this that keep me going! Finel Mushroom enamel bowl by Kaj Franck produced by Arabia of Finland. Already listed in the shop.

Saturday morning round of Garage sales yielded this blue kobenstyle lasagna pan as well as my best find of the week:

An original Marc Chagall four color lithograph - Signed! It baffles the mind to think that someone would sell a piece like this at a moving sale. I had been to the house that was holding the moving sale a few months before when they had an estate sale. Back then, the whole house was full to the brim with original art (Picasso, Dali, Chagall, et all) which had been priced accordingly to their retail value. I did not purchase much at the estate sale then, but when I saw the Chagall on Saturday, I did not hesitate for a second. I also had my paws hands on a large Picasso litho but it had been claimed by someone else just before me. I am not complaining though! This work is entitled XXe Siècle, No. 34 and was printed in 1970, probably in France. It depicts and angel and a goat, recurrent subjects in the artist's work.

This simple and charming bird sculpture was found today on our way back home. So cute!

And lastly, this AnneMarie Davidson enamel plate didn't travel too far to get to me, it was originally crafted in Sierra Madre, CA and was found somewhere in the Inland Empire.

A great week with a fabulous weekend! Sharing this week with A Living SpaceRemnant, and Sir Thrift a Lot.

Hello friends of the vintage find,

This past week was painfully slow for the store, I had no sales for 5 days straight! This month is looking like it is going to be my slowest month since opening the store! I don't get it, I am listing a lot of new items with a wide range of prices. Other friends are also seeing few sales in their stores. So, what is a reseller to do when the store is quiet? List a storm! I have been listing a lot of new items in the store and I am also getting two new Fab sales ready. One of the Fab sales is a Menagerie sale where different vendors will sell vintage animal figurines - It is going to be really cool! The other Fab sale is a Mid Mod Mom sale, but it will be a bit more eclectic including vintage items from different styles. I will let you know when the date is near.

I have told myself that I was not going to go thrifting due to the lack of sales and the overflowing inventory, but I couldn't help myself when I saw this gorgeous salt and pepper set online. I had to have it! I believe these were made by Porsgrund of Norway. They will be listed soon.

Then on Saturday our neighborhood had their biannual garage sale. I was good, I was very good! I set up all the things that needed to go and we sold a lot of big pieces of furniture. The smalls did not sell easily, so at 9:30 we decided to close shop and go shopping with our hard earned money. I spotted the Siesta chair from afar and started walking faster towards it. Husband, the engineer, told me to slow down and play it cool. Good advice! We got the chair for $3.00!!! It is a keeper and it needs some TLC before it replaces my husband's old Ikea lounge.

After we came back home with the chair I visited with some of my neighbors who were still selling. While browsing I saw a cute Mexican owl and told them that I always pick up owls as they sell well. So my neighbor says that she has more owls in a cabinet in her garage and tells me to go ahead and take a look. Imagine my surprise when I opened her cabinet to find hundreds of Rinconada animal figurines! They had inherited the collection from their uncle and do not have the space to display it. We agreed on a price and I took some figurines for my upcoming Fab sale. I think they will do well. Look at those adorable foxes.

I also got this extra large Rinconada horse for me. I think it is gorgeous.

Today was the Long Beach Flea and I cannot stay away from it. I went a little later than usual but I was able to find some goods. This beautiful brass and ceramic owl by Blazquez is a great piece. I recognized the style and signature because I had found a duck of his before.

A figgjo Tor Viking pouring bowl with a deep blue glaze on the outside. Very nice piece designed by Turi Gramstad Oliver. I have a matching mug listed in the store.

My second Sascha Brastoff resin candle holder. I do not like all of Brastoff's work, but this design is one of my favorites. It looks stunning illuminated from the inside.

Not one but two Hanova of Pasadena brutalist candle holders. Great bright colors on these. I had found and sold a blue one a while ago. It is always a good day when I come home with some enamel.

My best find of the day: a Tiki Bob San Francisco mug. These are difficult to find and sought after by tiki collectors everywhere. I have been lucky enough to find them before and I am glad to revisit with an old friend. I will list it on Ebay soon.

Thrift Finds: Teak Galore

Hello friends of the vintage find,

I did not post last week because I didn't have time to thrift or post. I was getting my FAB sale ready which is always a lot of work, and I wanted to finish by Friday. I was able to do so which freed my long weekend for family and friends.

This week I made up for all the lost thrifting time though. I had to go to Los Angeles to run an errand and I stopped at one thrift where I found this beautiful Upsala Ekeby Bellis plate. My first find in this wonderful mod pattern. Listed here.

I also found this signed silkscreen entitled "Mistake of the Flesh" I am still trying to discern the signature. Isn't it great?

On thursday I went to a local estate sale with my neighbor's daughter. She really enjoys going thrifting and I was happy to have the company. I didn't find much for the store but I found a keeper. The bird on the right came from the sale, the one on the left was the first find that I decided to keep. How could I let them go? They are so beautifully crafted. Made in Denmark, maker unknown.

On Friday I went to a mid century estate sale that had gorgeous furniture with prices to match. I focused on the smalls and came home with this good looking teak Dansk bed tray.

Small Dansk staved teak bowl.

Organically shaped carved teak bowl, in the style of Emil Milan and Taverneau. No marks.

And a set of teak candle holders.

Saturday was a good day for garage sales, my first and best find of the day was a handsome teak bar cart. Seen here. It needs some TLC but it will look gorgeous when I am done with it.

More teak from garage sales! A late production Dansk tray and a sowe bowl. Wow, that was a lot of teak!

This tall vase is another keeper. A Stig Lindberg for Gustavsberg hand decorated vase from the Karneval series. I found it last week when I took a break from all the FAB listing and went late to an amazing mid century sale in my neck of the woods. People camped out since the morning before the sale, and they came all the way from LA. I am glad I missed all the craziness, even more so because I found this beauty! How is it that it was still there waiting for me? Well, it is damaged. It has a long crack and it wouldn't be good for resale. I offered less money than they were asking for it, and my offer was accepted! I have included two sides of the same vase in the picture bellow. Fantastic, right?

 Hello,

This was a great week for finds! The store is doing a little better and I feel confident that somehow I will be able to list and sell all of my recent finds! I am trying to get enough inventory to make up for the five weeks that I will be in Colombia without thrifts and estate sales. It is going to be a difficult time for a thriftaddict as myself.

First two finds came from the local thrift stores. The cast iron candelabra is signed I, Nilsson. Stigtomta (a region of Sweden?) I believe this is an amateur piece, but I really like it.

Glass bowl designed by Zsofia Kanyak for Rosenthal Studio Line. Beautiful shape and detail.

Friday I drove 1 1/2 hours to a fantastic estate sale in San Diego. I left my house at 2:30 AM! I was confident I was going to be one of the first people in line. I was #6! Several of the dealers in front of me had arrived the night before! There were many things worth the drive, but I was hoping to get a couple pieces of furniture. After chatting for three hours with the dealers in front of me, it was clear that they were there for the furniture, so I decided that I would try to get one piece of furniture and then I would focus on smalls. I am glad I had a back up plan because the piece I wanted was gone in seconds! I came home with lots of goodies. Let's take a look:

Cathrineholm is always a favorite, and this time it was no exception. Look at it! A covered pan, a skillet, and two plates with handles.

Soon after I got all the Cathrineholm I went after this Dansk Fjord flatware. I love it so much! It has been on my wish list for a long time. Husband loves it too, we are considering keeping the set, but we also know that it is a good seller. Decisions, decisions...

There was a full set of red Dansk kobenstyle, but the only piece I got was this small pitcher. I almost got a small paella pan, but my bag was already full and I needed to move to the living room fast to get to these:

A set of six dinner plates by Marshall Studios, decorated by Jane Martz. These are so light and beautiful. It will be hard to let them go! Small bud vase in front is also a Martz piece.

Before I left I stopped by the patio and picked this extra large studio pot. A lovely piece.

Before heading home, I stopped at the nearby Ocean beach for a nice walk and was pleasantly surprised to find a couple of antique malls nearby. I picked this Arabia wall plate by Helja Liukko Sandstrom. Pretty.

I had enough finds for a week, yet husband teased me that I was missing out on a great community garage sale near us. Dutifully I drove to it but found nothing worth my time and effort. Dissapointed I went for a short drive to try and find other garage sales. I was rewarded when I spotted these two beauties. I knew they looked like "something" yet I wasn't sure. I took a closer look looking for marks, but there were none. I asked about the price and she said $4 for the large and $2 for the small. I knew this were worth the $6 dollars she was asking, and that I could always keep them (I like them a lot). Then I remembered that my friend Jessyca had favorited a similar item on Etsy, so I browsed and confirmed that these are Lotte lamps. Worth every penny!

The moral of this story is that you better trust your instincts and that you should follow people with impeccable taste!

Well, here we are, June 15th!!! Where has the time gone? I guess it is true that time flies when you are having fun! I am grateful every day for the opportunity to do what I love. It is a good life!

I have been busy photographing and measuring most of my inventory as we are getting ready to go on vacation to Colombia for five weeks and I plan to keep the store open and the listings coming. My sweet husband will be in charge of shipping while he is in California. I think we can make it work!

I did not go thrifting much this week but I managed to find a few beauties. Let's take a look:

Great pair of small ceramic bowls made in Italy. Gorgeous gold finish on the inside, signature reads V520/9 Italy. I have to research some more to find out if there is a specific designer behind these.

A Blenko glass owl bookend designed by Joel Meyers. I have another one in inventory so I will sell them as a pair.

Hartstone wine chiller. I love this object! I love its shape and the practical design. Already listed in the shop.

Modernist stainless steel salt and pepper set. Simple and beautiful.

A Japanese cryptomeria wood owl carving. These figurines have a following and they have a very particular look. I have a frog of the same style listed in the store.

My best find of the week, a gorgeous Finel teapot. I love Finel enamel and I have a small collection of the bowls. I better list this cutie before I get too attached.

A Lapid of Israel mug. I really like the mid century look of the Lapid pieces and I pick them up whenever I see them.

Four roly poly spaghetty string glasses. Fun and retro! Love the colors on these.

That is it for the week. Tomorrow is the Long Beach market and I might go early so that I can be back in time to celebrate father's day. We will see if I manage to get up early or not.

Hello friends of the vintage find,

A quick post with some of this week's finds as I am getting ready for my trip to Colombia. We leave tomorrow morning and we will be gone for 5 weeks. The store will remain open and my husband will be in charge of shipping. Lucky guy!

I had a very fruitful picking trip to an antique mall, and came home with a second Skjode duck. He joins my previous one on the bookshelf. I have a weakness for teak figurines. What can I say?

This Zoo-Line hippo came from the same antique mall expedition, but I think I will be ready to part with it at some point. Look for it in the shop soon.

Another cutie from the same mall! A David Stewart for Lion's Valley small dog planter. So cute!

A couple of thrifted Kokeshidolls. I love picking these as they sell fast. How can they not? Look at those faces.

This cool Rya tapestry (large at 58" x 24") came from a estate sale near my house. Made by Sellgren of Norway and designed by Ramon Isern in 1974. So cool!

Thrifted large brass Etruscan horse. I just sold a smaller version on Fab. Love the size of this one. Talking about Fab, it was my best sale yet! I sold furniture as well as small pieces. Thank you to all of my new and returning customers!

Last but not least, this large copper viking ship. Great patina and craftsmanship. Coming to the store soon!

Well, this is it for now. I won't be posting much in the next few weeks. Have a great Summer and happy thrifting!

Thrift Finds: Pleasantly Surprised

Hello blog friends,

I wrote last week that I was not going to be thrifting for a while because I am on vacation in Colombia. Well, I am in Bogotá and what do you know? Mid Mod can be found here too! There is a small flea market near downtown every Sunday and my sister in law and her husband were happy to drive me there today. I went with no expectations -as I was an avid visitor to the flea market when I lived here and I did not remember finding much of anything. Well, I was pleasantly surprised more than once!

I had the most luck with glass as it is usually unmarked and knowing what you are looking for is an advantage everywhere. Grey decanter in the back is a Holmegaard Kluk Kluk designed by Jacob Bang. All the way from Denmark to Colombia! the tumblers are iittala Niva by Tapio Wirkkala. I doubted myself for a split second with these, but the price was incredible, so home they came.

Sculpture on the left corner is a replica of Picasso's untitled sculpture for Daley Plaza in Chicago. It was made by the public buildings commission to commemorate the unveiling of the original sculpture. I am trying to find a comparable one, a quick search promises good value. I need to do some more research before I get all excited about it.

Dansk cast iron tree candle holder designed by Jens Quistgaard in the background and a cute metal elephant in the front.

I still can't believe my luck! I had to bargain a lot to get good prices for these items, but it is all part of the fun. It helps that I speak the language! I left behind a couple of great pieces that were priced high. I have no regrets!

A snapshot of a fruit stand at the market. Look at the size of those guanavanas! That my friends is one of the most delicious fruits you would ever taste. Next to them are lulos, lulo juice is my favorite! I have had plenty of this wonders in my first week here.

What did you find this week? Sharing my finds with A Living SpaceRemnantApron Thrift Girl and Sir Thrift a Lot.

Colombian Finds

Hello dear readers,
I'm posting today from the city of Santa Marta on the Caribbean coast. We have been on the north coast of Colombia since Thursday volunteering in a three day mission with Operation Smile in the city of Riohacha, Guajira. The Wayu people inhabit this area, and their culture is quite unique. Wayu women make gorgeous textiles and bags. it is a true treat to see them selling their wares. They are warm and fun and great artists. I bought four bags (mochilas).

Today we were sunbathing at the beach when one of the many peddlers walking by came to sell his wood carvings. I immediately fell in love with this bird. It is a Maria Mulata, a symbol of the Colombian fauna. Isn't it wonderful? It reminds me of the Eames bird with its folk simplicity.

No thrift finds today, but not regretting it :)

Thrift Finds: Bogotá keeps on giving

Hello blog friends,

A short post from Bogotá where we are having a great time with family and friends. I love this city! I might not love its traffic and pollution but I love everything else about it. I love the high mountains flanking it from the east, I love the mist that rises in the morning, I love the people, the ciclovias, the restaurants, the museums. I lived here for 10 years and I yearn for my friends and the good times shared with them. It is good to be back.

Pardon my trip down memory line. Now to the few finds scored this week!

Glass vase in the back is my mother in law's find, likely a Murano sommerso from the 1950's. Three tall glasses in the back are iittala Niva by Tapio Wirkkala. I found four tumblers from the same line at the same stall last time I visited. I asked the vendor if he had more, but sadly these were the last ones.

The orange telephone on the front is my favorite find from this trip. It is a Grillo telephone designed by Marco Zanuso and Richard Sapper and it was manufactured in Italy. From Wikipedia:

"The modern shape and design features were revolutionary for the 1960s. The fact that the phone could be manufactured in such a small package, during the 60s, set it apart from all other designs at the time. It incorporated a flip-design that opened automatically as the phone was picked up. This clam-shell design was to go on and eventually influenced the design of modern mobile telephones during the 90s and beyond. The name "Grillo" is Italian for cricket and was named so because the 'ringer', which was incorporated inside the wall plug, sounded like a cricket.
The dial of the Grillo phone employs an innovative solution to the design challenge of condensing the dial mechanism into a limited space, while still incorporating a finger-stop. The Grillo phone's dial couldn't employ a conventional finger-stop like the type found on conventional dial phones, but instead has a button within each of the dial's number holes, which, when depressed, pushes a pin through the back of the dial which stops the dial once it's turned to the dial's end position."

 Hello friends,

I haven't forgotten you, it is just that I have been having fun and I haven't had any time to blog. I am back from my LONG vacation, and I have been busy making up for all the time I spent away from the thrifts! Some good finds for the store and a keeper for one of my collections. Let's see them!

A gorgeous set of Takahashi salt and pepper shakers. These are lacquered in gold and they are larger than other sets I've found. I would keep them if I already didn't have a salt/pepper mill collection. *Ahem*

I love finding Eva Zeisel's designs in the wild. These cups and saucers belong to Hallcraft's Tomorrow's Classic and are decorated with the Caprice motif. Lovely, aren't they?

This large fiberglass bowl is already listed in the shop. I love the colors on it. So MOD! Lightweight, dishwasher safe, stain free, and beautiful! Move over Cathrineholm...

My second etruscan horse! If my first one was extra-large, this one is tiny. Love it! It will be listed in the shop soon.

Now for this week's keeper (see a large resolution image of this print in another color HERE).
A color viscosity etching by Dick Swift. A SoCal native, Swift received his BA from Los Angeles State College and his MFA from Claremont College. He also studied printmaking at Chouinard, the Art Students' League in New York and Atelier 17 in Paris. In the 1960's Swift built the Printmaking program at CSULB, under his direction the program achieved national prominence. I got my MFA at CSULB with emphasis on printmaking, I never met Swift but I can clearly see his influence in the school. I am so happy to have found this print.

If you follow me on Instagram or Twitter, you have already seen this snapshot of my on-line finds. What is a picker to do if there are no thrift stores around? From left to right: Bitossi seating cat, George Briards' enamel plate (so similar to Kaj Franck's design for Finel), another mill for my collection, a Laurids Lonborg brush viking, a Wiinblad design LP cover (pardon the quality of the picture), and a Chelsea Pottery plate designed by Joyce Morgan.

Thrift Finds: Back on track

Hello followers of the vintage find! I have been working hard on getting some new inventory for the shop, and even though I went to more thrift stores than I care to remember, this week ended up being fruitful.

On Wednesday I visited 4 thrifts and I only found this beautiful mod ashtrays and lighter set made by Pierre Cardin.

Later that same day I decided to stop by an antique's mall where I usually find great items. It is a hit and miss kind of place, but I figured I was due a good find. I was right!

I KNOW! Unbelievable to find all of these wonderful Eva Zeisel's Tomorrow's Classic pieces together! They are the real deal (I mean they are the original ones made by Hall China and not the reissue made by Crate and Barrel) Most of the pieces are serving pieces, which are more difficult to find. This particular dealer has exquisite taste and great prices, so I always visit his booth first. Listed HERE.

I also found this whimsical bowl by Bjorn Wiinblad for Rosenthal. It is lovely!

And to add more beauty to my day, a piece of Italian Pee Dee glass. Glass is one of my weaknesses. I cannot pass up a piece like this. I am debating adding it to my collection. We will see.

Talking about beautiful glass, I picked this medium size Flora bowl from Craigslist. Brand new in box. The lady that sold it to me had more things for sale, but the only other find that came with me was this group of fierce Danish vikings.

Do you notice a pattern here? No thrift store finds so far. All I can find at my local thriftstore is Target overstock. It is really sad.

I found a new coffee table for the house at a nearby estate sale. Funny thing is that I got there an hour before the sale began and a reseller that I've dubbed "furniture queen" was first in line (of course she was, she always is). I was discouraged as there were not that many things I wanted from the sale, I just wanted the coffee table. Luck was on my side once again, as she was interested in the bedroom furniture and she bypassed MY coffee table. I actually like "furniture queen" and I want to be like her when I grow up.

Isn't it pretty? A long surfboard lane acclaim with double dovetails. It needs some TLC but is is in pretty good shape. I will share a better picture once it is all cleaned up and ready.

And finally, my last find of the week. A thrift store find! A beautifully crafted studio bowl. So light and delicate. I have been working in trying to ID the maker with some of my knowledgeable friends. I might have a lead, so I have sent an email to a curator that might be able to confirm or deny our suspicions. Of course I will write a blog post about it once we know!

This is it for this week. I hope to get a lot of new listings going this coming week. What did you find?

Thrift Finds: Inventory overload

Hello blog friends,

Back again with lots of finds to share. Lots of ceramics this week, I think I have been bitten by the clay bug and I can't stop from picking up all the lovely pots I find! I went to an estate sale on Thursday, a new to me thrift on Friday and the Long Beach flea market today! That is a LOT of thrifting.

I was very excited about the estate sale on Thursday as it promised beautiful pieces of furniture, lots of interesting glass, and lots of pottery. It was a disappointment to finally get inside the house (after waking up early and waiting for a good couple of hours) and find that most of the good stuff was no longer at the house or it was not for sale! I cannot believe that the estate sale company could pull the rug from underneath us like that. Their excuse was that the family had decided at the last minute to keep some things. I believe they pre sold to a dealer that offered lots of money. Whatever. I WILL NEVER GO TO ONE OF THEIR ESTATE SALES AGAIN. I didn't leave empty handed, but I wouldn't have gone so early for the sale as it was.

Friday I discovered a privately own thrift store in an area I rarely visit. Well, I declare this to be my favorite thrift store in the whole wide world! Truly amazing housewares and clothing, and the owner is a knowledgeable collector of odd things. His prices are a little higher than say a Goodwill, but the quality of the items is worth paying the extra dollar or two.

Finally today I went to the Long Beach flea market where I met with the lovely Jen from Vintage Scapes. We were meeting to trade a couple of beautiful items and to thrift the market together. It was a lovely morning and I came home with a lot of wonderful finds.

Now for the finds:

Ceramics from the estate sale. Great pieces but I still need to research to find out the makers if possible. I am actually looking forward to all the research. It is fascinating to find out the history behind the objects that I find.

Wilmot owls from the estate sale. I love finding these cuties. They sure have a following. These are my fifth and sixth ones. They are great!

My best find of the estate sale was a Nissen wine rack that holds 15 bottles. I forgot to take a picture of it, sorry. It will be listed in the store soon.

Talking of which, this thrift store find has to be my best find of the month! This is a detail of an ashtray made by Marianna Von Allesch, an American (German born) artist who worked with famous architect Morris Lapidus in the Americana Hotel in Bal Harbour, Florida. I didn't know anything about Von Allesch before Friday, but I find her work organically beautiful. See more of her work here.

The ever popular Blenko elephant bookend came from the flea market and the Pee Dee blue decanter from the thrift store.

Lovely Sasaki Colorstone teapot designed by Massimo Vignelli on the left (from the thrift store) and German Schott glass teapot by Bauhaus designer Wilhelm Wagenfeld on the right (from the estate sale).

Lots of great ceramic pieces from the flea market. A Danish bud vase on the left, an orange head vase that looks and feels italian, and two pieces signed M. Romero '45. I am intrigued by these two pieces and I have yet to find information on the potter. I might have paid a little too much for these, but I really like them. If you know anything about these, please do not hesitate to leave a comment. Thanks.

These two beauties came home with me thanks to Jen and her passion for Eva Zeisel! Remember the beautiful dinnerware that I found last week? Jen has a growing collection and wanted to add some pieces to her set. I was happy to oblige. Thanks Jen! Gustavsberg Prunus tray on the left and Kenji Fujita's canister for Freeman Lederman on the right.

If you are interested in any of these pieces, please do not hesitate to contact me. Sharing this week with A Living SpaceRemnant and Sir Thrift a Lot.

Hello friends of the vintage find,

I am happy to be back thrifting my way through SoCal, I love the hunt, the search, the detective work. I am finding a lot of beautiful treasures, but I am not being very disciplined as far as photographing and listing goes. I need to stop going out and I need to focus on getting the store ready for the end of the year rush! I know it is only August, but December is just around the corner!!! Argh!

I have grouped my finds this week to be a bit more efficient. Let's take a look:

Lovely blues and greens. From left to right: adorable Arabia of Finland child's bowl, two Danish IRA tins by Anita Wangel, Two small Royal Copenhagen Aluminia trays by Marianne Johnson, small Blenko 920 decanter by Winslow Anderson and great looking Etruscan sculpture. Most of these finds came from today's flea market with the exception of the trays.

Now for the warmer tones. Vera placemats, Dansk kobenstyle lasagna pan, Midwinter Stonehenge Sun plates, and a gorgeous Swedish carafe designed by G. Rosendahl. Everything from thrift stores but for the carafe which I found at the flea market.

My BEST find at the thrift stores this week is this pair of modernist travertine figurines! I have always wanted to find these in the wild! In the background is a fabric found at the flea market, designed by Saini Salonen for Boras of Sweden. It has been mounted onto a frame and it has seen better days. I plan to take it out of the frame, wash it and sew some pillows with the fabric.

Now for this week's keepers... Art of course. First piece is an etching by local SoCal artist Ruth Weisberg, former dean of Fine Arts at USC and an influential figure in the local scene. I have always admired Weisberg's work and I am thrilled to own one of her prints. Found at a local ES company's warehouse sale!

Now for my second print of the week. A signed Kaoru Kawano's Tree Girl with Woodpeckers. Another one checked from the bucket list!

Last, a couple of matches for thrifted incomplete pieces. A lid for my fabulous Dansk ice bucket gifted by Charlie and a cheese knive for a lonely Dansk Torun board gifted by VioletQVintage. Many thanks and good thrifting karma to you both!

Thrift Finds: A quick post

Dear followers,

Please forgive the quick post, but my best friend is visiting and we are still catching up. Love long talks with good friends. I promise I will be back next week with a longer post.

These are my finds from a small sale at a retirement community. Most of my purchases came from one seller. He lived in Copenhagen for a while and he has a large collection of Scandinavian design. Lucky for me, he is now selling some of his collection.

Look at all the Wiinblad! I adore his illustration style and I will always try to buy it. I am not going to say that it is a fast seller, but I cannot pass on any of his work! The Per Lutken for Holmegaard cylindrical vase is a sweet find. I debated keeping it, but I am running out of space on my mantle, so I am going to let another glass lover the pleasure of its company.
The Aluminia tray came from the same seller, isn't it gorgeous?

The wooden spoons came from a large collection, I didn't have much money left, so I chose the best ones. I am tempted to keep them. The Bennington's potters' trigger mug with plate came from the same seller as the spoons.

Beautiful enamel plate was my cheapest purchase of the day. I just love that blue!

Small bud vase on top right is from Ken's of California, an obscure California pottery maker. I like the simple shape and the glaze. We will see how it does once it is listed.

I hope this was enough eye candy for you. Sharing this week with A Living SpaceRemnant and Sir Thrift a Lot.
